Re: A question of lore

Questions about the Quirium Cascade Mine: Am I right in thinking that if a ship drops a QCM, all NPCs in the vicinity immediately stop whatever they were doing and head for the hills? Correct. Am I right in thinking that if you pop the QCM before it blows (it's on a 15 second delay, right?), it doe...

Re: Oolite interaction with Expansion Packs

I do not yet understand. So there are features that do not require handlers. But how do they get active? I mean, is the sheer presence of files sufficient, or is there one file (like a manifest or deployment descriptor) that needs to register the features in Oolite? If the presence of a sound file ...

Re: Setup mouse Elite 2-Frontier style

When in fullscreen, press Shift+Ctrl+M instead of Shift+M and that should give you mouse control with yaw on the x-axis.

Re: Dual monitors / fullscreen mode

Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done about this, unless someone implements windowed fullscreen on Linux. Unlike the Windows and Mac ports, Linux currently utilizes the fullscreen facilities of SDL and that takes it straight into exclusive fullscreen. Maybe as a workaround you can try mult...

Re: Oolite interaction with Expansion Packs

Is it safe to say "only an OXP that has an XXX event handler actually adds a XXX feature to the game?" Or how could the contents of some OXP safely be categorized/understood? No. An OXP can contain graphics, sounds, new models, new textures, planetary system configuration changes, charact...

Re: Oolite interaction with Expansion Packs

T I will have a look at the doxygen stuff first, but I doubt I would really have to read the source code. If that is the case then it should be worth documenting the API so OXP developers know what they can rely on without needing to know the Oolite internals. And likewise, Oolite developers would ...

Re: Oolite Wiki

For future reference, my todo list would be this: Environment mapping. We already have a class in the source related to this (OOEnvironmentCubeMap.h/m) but it is not currently used and I am not entirely sure what more is needed to make it work. It would enable various degrees of reflections of the e...

Re: Oolite interaction with Expansion Packs

You are asking for an explanation of how everything works basically. That's a bit of a tall order, but there are a few pointers: Check in the source for Core/MiniZip. That's what is used for decompression of the oxzs and it is a bare bones (de)packager based on the standard zlib. Check out Core/Reso...

Moved to discussion because it has everything to do with Oolite and nothing to do with Outworld.

Re: Oolite Wiki

When the main part of today's core was created there were project leads involved, of course. It's more or less as Cody said. The only detail I believe was slightly different is that I do not recall an official handover between Jens and cim. cim happened to be the guy with the right skills, ideas and...

Guys, the wiki content has never been controlled in any way by the developers (excluding minor changes here and there when inaccuracies or factual errors are noted). Feel free to do what needs to be done to improve it.

Re: Oolite Wiki

On the other hand I am tearing my hair on the manifest.plist data format. See http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Manifest.plist#Custom_Format - inside a dictionary, do we have quoted or unquoted values? - inside a dictionary, do we have quoted or unquoted keys? - do we allow/need colons or/and equals...

Re: I crashed the ooniverse

Oh, wow. Thank you for digging that far. So what I did is definitely within the specs. Can I also ask why the destroyer offers me to fly (without torus) with 300, sometimes even 600 [units?] when it is documented to fly .2 LMs? Is this changed by addons I may have, or by experience or...? Th...

Re: I crashed the ooniverse

So what is speed? I'd assume this refers to the .2 LM the Imperial Star Destroyer can run. That would explain that I can accelerate up to 200 [units?] in normal mode. Multiply by 32 and I get 6400 [units?]. But I was able to accelerate 110690 and counting. Let's see what Mr. Code has to say about t...

Re: I crashed the ooniverse

Torus drive is programmed to exceed 32x speed when there are no stellar bodies or obstacles within a certain ditance of the player. You can accelerate to crazy speeds if you let it go for a good while.
