Not sure how GIMP works with layers when saving, but Oolite can't use them. I use paint.net normally, and the final step in creating a texture file is to merge all the layers into one. Once you do that, you then can't move the logos around - they're "burnt in" to one layer. GIMP may do thi...

I have a laptop with a 4k screen (HP EliteBook 1050 G1 Base Model). At least, I'm pretty sure the display is 4K. It's resolution is 3840 x 2160.
