in 80th: we have too low computer memory to store really interesting game universe, so we need procedure generator to create it.
Now: we have too high computer memory to fill it with really interesting game world, so we need procedure generator to fill it.

Re: Two remarkable dates

What impressed me, and not necessarily in a positive way, is how the moon landing was politicized. And the most evident part of this tendency is increasing popularity of Moon hoax idea. AFAIK it was originated in US but now it is extremely popular in Russia. Sadly indeed. Due to modern telecommunic...

Re: Two remarkable dates

Sadly when the astronauts left the moon, they left behind mankind's legacy: discarded vehicles, space junk, litter ,photos. The same issue with Mt Everest too. Think LEM descent stages and lunar rovers are not litter. It will be part of expositions on Moon local museums in future maybe, like Nansen...

Two remarkable dates

Congratulation, gentlemen!
50 years ago humans from Earth stepped onto the Moon.
Let's remember another remarkable anniversary of this year. 500 years ago, 19 September 1519, Magellan sailed from Spain to begin first circumnavigation.

Barrel roll works fine for me. Any inpredictable flight path will work too.

Re: Mac config file - where is it?

Sorry for delay, gentlemen. And thank you, Disembodied, for tip with Alt key to show Library in Go menu. I was using more complex way to access Library from Finder  Unfortunately, there is still issue with extracting OXZ files. I’m the only user of my Mac and almost all my applications install...

Sun Gear 4.2.0 Tweaking runaway greenhouse trigger in PlanetEngine - effect leading to transition Earth-like planets onto hellish Venus like planets with superdense overheated atmospheres. Runaway greenhouse effect is never realized for main planet, but it has influence on appearance and properties ...

Re: Hard Way

Hard Way version 2.4.0 - fixed bug with invalid reference to undefined player.ship.position in case of ejection, generating error messages in log.
Seems it is not just fixed cosmetic issue - now several days are added to player clock after ejection, not only one.

Re: Here be Dragons

@private_lock You are right, there are three groups of systems. A. Already visited and recorded in Explorers’s Club database. B. Transient systems in 7 LY vicinity C. Yet unknown systems beyond 7 LY horizon. There are also two chart mods. Docked mod – you have all systems plotted on chart, but witho...

Re: Too many pirates...

Tweaking population rules based on system government / TL / maybe GNP seems most logical solution. We have already such dependencies in vanilla populator, so you can just enhance its magnitudes. Tweaking AI (parameter accuracy) is another approach and it was realized in Skilled NPCs. It really works...

Re: Sun Gear

Sun Gear 4.1.0

Improved function of rough calculation of main planet temperature (still have some discrepancy with more complex calculation of planet temperature by Planet Engine).
Really not critical improvement - rough formula is used only to select main planet texture in my OXP not presented yet.

Re: Planet Forests and Oceans

Really nice idea, phkb! I'm using another approach with texture smart selection by script. Planet textures in png format seems obsolete now and I doubt is it reasonable to present this project. Didn't analyzing your OXPs yet. Are you using any other marker words besides "forest" and "ocean"? If you ...

Re: New Jameson here, some initial feedback

Re: using hyperspace to escape trouble... That worked in elite (no wormholes) and worked well because it was often a desperate move with consequences (goods might not make a profit here, system may be no safer, back to the 'witchpoint'). In Oolite however, don't you find that they tend to pursue yo...

Re: New Jameson here, some initial feedback

IMHO the main cause for frustrated experience with Oolite for green Jameson is not lack of must-have equipment nor too hard rules of game world but lack of situation awareness. Observe. Evaluate threats. Plan actions. Act. Green Jameson too often decides to engage combat without any evaluation and p...
