I've given subentities custom AIs before. It works, to an extent. They don't get assigned a "mother", so any message to group won't get to them.

Otherwise, they work as expected. I bet the minesweeperAI would be perfect for them.

Definitely keep the save file. Maybe someone else can take it and see if they get the same effects on their system.

I propose we set up the "Please Feed the LittleBear" fund. That way he can take more time off work and produce more OXPs.

And what's up with the Lesser God? He's at least a major deity, if not his own d**n pantheon! All hail Ursa Minoris!

The "illegal_goods" list is read when the Universe is init(). There aren't any functions to re-read it or change it (that I can find in the code).

Sorry.

Re: Note.....

Please note: I am connected here from my work PC (on which I am 'mostly harmless'). It is the home PC that has my better standing. The 'mostly harmless' rating in the forums is just a matter of how many posts you've made. That goes with you, no matter where you log in, as long as you use the same u...

I'd do the same bit as you contemplated for blowing up the shipyard in Assassins. If the player jumps out of system -- galactic or witchspace -- he's a fugitive for "failing to answer a system distress call" and "extreme cowardice during a system emergency". Then he's a fugitive. Then we remove the ...

'Zactly. You got it.

I've gotta go visit the Graveyard. I left Galaxy 1 before I got the chance to go sightseeing.

At least I've got something to look forward to.

I forgot about the relative time thing. But I'm not too worried about lag: Xpilot, SubSpace, and even World of Warcraft (for a 3D example) all manage to keep a reasonable playing experience even with servers in remote locations. Of course, I know the secret: you're not seeing things instantaneously....

Well, there is a pirate cove in the OXPs. That appears to be a giant asteroid, until pirates start spewing out of it. Does that count?

Other massively multiplayer space sims have been developed. SubSpace and XPilot come to mind. And didn't Freelancer have some multiplayer abilities? The trick will be to split things up by system. What do you care about some loser off at Rexxla when you're cruising the Tionisla Orbital Graveyard? Yo...

So, how about: if the base is destroyed, turn the player Fugitive, up his bounty, and put in the "lunatic with a q-mine" text -- but add that the base has been rebuilt at great expense, and a manhunt has been instituted against the offending party. For the next 10 jumps, add four manhunter ships wit...

The problem is that the rock hermits, behemoths, and other docks are randomly generated, and so the game can't depend that they'll still be there when you reload and restart. System stations are guaranteed to still be around, so we can reload from there.

I had military shields, but I shot him down with my military laser before he had a chance to fight back. Learn to snipe.

Okay, it was a bit disappointing. Maybe dogfighting would've been more fun.

No problem. 99% of debugging is dead end. And it's always the last thing you try that turns out to be the solution.
