Re: Help us make Oolite more immersive!

I think some friendly traders would help. Let's say I'm stuck dogging another cobra into the station - wouldn't the guy make contact? "Hey Bud, how about we form a convoy? I'll watch your back if you watch mine.", or "I'll just let you get off my scanner, you're making me nervous.", "Gonna make a ki...

Re: Need input/opinions please.

Have you tried asking on Futurama forums? Fans have a tendency to know the most obscure things. Also the creators of the show seem like geeks so it's possible they'd answer if they knew why you wanted to know.

Re: Tales from the spacelanes...

That looks a lot like the behaviour scavengers display when they try to scoop something up near you and then veer away at the last second.

Re: Split: Difficulty for new players

The disjointed sense would be - for me, anyway - more to do with the player's experience. I worry that a series of static jumps would detract from the sense of travelling a long distance, or even of being in the same system: it would be like jumping from one box of space to another box of space wit...

Re: [RELEASE] D.T.T Cyclops 1.0

Yep, I was referring to certain other OXP ships, the Cyclops is obviously not small! I always thought I preferred my settings brighter than most people (compared to my friends), but apparently this is not the case. Can someone make a IR vision OXP? I'm sure ships must glow a bit since the only way t...

Re: [RELEASE] D.T.T Cyclops 1.0

Personal rant: I wish people would stop making dark ships or ships with ridiculously small profiles. The computer doesn't have to be able to see to hit me but I have to be able to see to hit it. It doesn't need any more advantages. Otherwise It does look very pretty (what I can see of it anyw...

Re: NEW : Bank of the Black Monks OXP

Kinda getting really off topic: I love how the economic system continues to fail and we keep using it. On the other hand, science keeps getting challenged. <sigh>

Re: Split: Difficulty for new players

That is one thing I really enjoy about having the Galactic Navy OXP. Those worlds that have a military presence are nice and safe, with a patrolling behemoth and frigate and viper squad positioned at the witch space exit. It's a nice surprise when you enter space in a patrolled world with pirates on...

Re: Griff's normalmapped ship remakes

Quite like that red and white scheme. Reminds me of those spaceships from the early days of SciFi - colonial vipers, x-wings, whatever they fly in Buck Rogers.

Re: Dumb A I 's

I wonder how easy it is to gauge how nasty a fight might be for a pirate. Putting aside the fact that the graphics in a game aren't too revealing. As far as I know by canon the Elite Fed doesn't report rankings so all you have to go on is visuals. A small ship might be packing a large cannon and be ...

Re: Progress

Anyway, out of eight attempts: first failed due to not understanding 3-D coordinates second failed due to not realising the Cobra III cannot fit in sideways (pity: the approach was otherwise good) At this point I started giving answers to questions like "how do I fly this ship?" beyond the literal ...

Re: Progress

With Elite, there was a strong motivation to persevere, as the (usually young) player had spent what was, for them, a considerable amount of money on the game, hence, there was an "investment" to be recouped. Oolite, on the other hand, is free.. thus, there is no loss or cost involved in simply say...

Re: Progress

There's good and bad frustration - the good type is the "one more go, I swear I'll get it" factor that keeps you up until 3am, the other is the "hurl the mouse across the room and ragequit" type. My opinion is that continued failed dockings tend to be the latter. Of course we don't want a game with...

Re: Progress

This. Games have moved on, what used to be a badge of honour is more likely to be a frustration to new players today. Moving on != improvement. There's nothing wrong with being frustrated, it's not much of a challenge to start with - after a few crashes you can learn to dock with speed redlining. A...
