I’ll take a guess and say that a maintenance overhaul is time related, and this varies according to the lengths of your jumps. I treat it like Station taxes – you gotta pay! I think they’re only available at high TL systems.

I’ll throw in the “Honour Harrington” series by David Weber as an example of contempory pulp sci-fi space opera – think “Hornblower“ in space. Wormholes are used, of course, but all the space battles are like FEII – Newtonian physics. Torpedoes are very popular. Well worked out!

I was also nine when I read my first Sci-Fi novel - Heinlein's "Tunnel in the Sky".
Had quite an effect on a young mind.

Yes, Voidhawks.
If you've read Banks, you should recognise my ship's name.
As DH says, Lem rocks.

For "hard sci-fi" (no hyperspace) try the "Mars" trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson.
Stuff we could actually do.

Worm-holes are the most elegant solution for fiction, especially fixed ones. (Also the most likely in RL). As with Hyperspace, they need to be beyond a gravity well. This is in effect how Elite/Oolite operate – routes between systems are fixed. Question: does a Lagrange point qualify as a jump point...

Yeah, I was thinking Asimov.

Good links, thanks. Islands of Space rings a very distant bell.

Hi, KZ.

What have I started...yeah, thrust trails will do nicely.
If you want me to be picky, the Station should be further back, so as not to dwarf the Cobra.

Now there's a question, Zevans.

You'll have me thinking about that for days, now.

I’m no expert so I’m not going to be much help. One of the minds may assist.

A thought…what GPU are you using. If ATI, then driver update may help.
There's a thread somewhere on it.

Oh yes, KZ, I like that.
You can have the red Cobra: I'd like a purple one!

Correct, O Scaled One.

I heard someone on the radio recently, saying that "eureka" is the root of the word "heuristic". Interesting!

Xeer etc.
