Re: Science Fiction Trivia

Just a reminder that there are plenty of other important historical figures out there - scientists, religious leaders, criminals, etc. etc., it doesn't have to be all presidents and chancellors etc.

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

Slightly contentions, but Kate Atkinson's novel Life After Life has the protagonist attempt to kill Hitler before his rise to power, because of her foreknowledge of World War II. There is no physical time-travel involved - when she dies she gets reborn into the same life, and over a series of exist...

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

Continuing the theme of time travel, let's have five examples of time travel with the intent to stop a HISTORICAL figure before they begin to do whatever makes them a historical figure. Not assassinate at a later date, and it must be a real historical figure, not someone fictional. This can include...

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

OK, since nobody else seems to have any ideas, I'll try the TV series Legends of Tomorrow , in which Rip Hunter takes a time machine back from the future to try to stop the evil Vandal Savage from conquering the world, and is in turn chased by the Time Masters (time police) who really don't want him...

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

Might as well mention that the Lord Kalvan series isn't time travel anyway, it's also dimensional. The hero is accidentally picked up by a dimensional travelling vehicle owned by the Paratime Police, escapes by shooting the pilot, and ends up in a parallel world with poorer technology and a differen...

CJ Cherryh: Serpent's Reach: the relationship between Raen Meth-maren and her azi, Jim, develops on the liner Andra's Jewel. Book 3 and almost all of Book 4 take place there. Yes, that certainly qualifies - 2 to go. I've only seen a couple of trailers, but the TV series Avenue 5 "follows the captai...

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

The Fifth Element. That's a definite yes - in fact it was the first thing I thought of, so have a meaningless bonus point. Night on the Galactic Railroad... Umm... it's a train rather than a liner in the normal sense, but since it is a passenger vehicle etc. and presumably carries more than 50 peop...
