At best we gain a fraction of a millisecond (averaged over 10k iterations, 100s of nano-seconds), so not much at all, at the expense of readability & explicit typing.
Ok, so this part is useless.

Have normal fuel available at some stations, have rations at others, and no fuel at all in other systems. The amount of fuel ration available for purchase can be set from 0ly to 4ly. You're right, another_commander. I use a debug version so as to be able to modify the pov in-flight with my joystick.
