Hmm, I just realized now that these modifications are for the source code and not for any game files post-compilation, right? I am quite unfamiliar with Oolite compilation and this might take me a while to figure out. Sorry about that!

Out of curiosity, what is the distribution of dumb ships in the game? How is accuracy set for the default NPCs? Is that dependent on the type of system?

Yeah, I just took a look and ships with higher accuracy behave far better when evading shots head on or when fleeing. Perhaps the lowest AI values could be set to do at least some attempts to dodge, as Norby suggested -- nothing that would dramatically change the difficulty but something that would ...

The only problem with that is that the download number is reset to zero if a new version is uploaded with a new identifier. Aye, there's the rub. Forgot about that since I always keep the same identifiers. That basically nullifies the idea. Also, worth stating that just because something is popular...
