I was just about to ask about that. Anyway, time to kick the compilation scripts into functioning...

Returning

Well, after an appallingly long hiatus, I have decided to try to wrestle Oolite onto my computer again. Has anything interesting happened while I was away? (Like every OXP I use being updated.)

The distress beacon is from Missiles and Bombs, IIRC.

Actually, that could become a very cool idea: design your ship, within certain parameters of course, then write an AI for it, then fly a player ship as a spectator as they fight.

Edit your save file (I think that WordPad is suitable on Windows, and TextEdit on a Mac) and change the bit that says

Code: Select all

<key>ship_desc</key>
    <string>cobra3-player</string>
to "<string>griff_normalmapped_cobra_mkIII_player</player>".

Ooh, or they could do CoreWars, Oolite style: Write your AI, then pit it against other players' AIs. Unfortunately, unless your son is a total nerd he isn't likely to approve.

I've been in love with it since I first found out from Ahruman's Twitter feed. Unfortunately, I haven't got a workable Windows install and I can't get the prototype to work in Wine.

Yeah, from what I can gather my graphics card is basically a piece of card with some lines drawn on it.

Major bug with 1.73.4 on Lucid

Basically, when trying to display one of Griff's shadery things, the GPU hangs, and it breaks the entire X server. I'm using a self-compiled version.

I tried it, and my computer actually crashed. I'm building it from source, now.
