Re: Sound Absent

About ready to throw my hands and give it up. I tried the GeForce card again, and it's fried. I guess I'm ignorant about what you mean when you say "unless mandoman is running trunk", I downloaded the game from the Oolite site, AFTER purging all versions of it from my machine, both from canonical, a...

Re: Sound Absent

Maybe I should try the GeForce card one more time, now that I have the drivers for it downloaded.

Re: Sound Absent

Are you running in strict mode? If you resize the window (F12 for windowed mode) do you see performance improvement? Can you try running in full-screen non-strict mode and reduce the graphics details from Oolite options menu? Does any of these changes reduce the "jerkiness"? :? No, it's not in stri...

Re: Sound Absent

I think Diziet Sma has it nailed. I've thought as much myself, I just don't know how to prove it. A lot of suggestions here for me to try, and I'll get right on them. Thanks all, and I'll be back with the results. :)

Re: Sound Absent

Basically, package installations on Linux, whether via apt, Synaptic, Software Centre or even RPM, can scatter numerous files in various places across the system, unlike, for example, Macs, where all the files for a package are generally kept in one place. I've seen Mac users describe the Linux met...

Re: Sound Absent

I use Mint 13 with MATE desktop, so it might be slightly different from your setup. Go to System -> Preferences -> Additional Drivers. That will take you to a window that should bring up your Nvidia card. Install the driver, and reboot. If you're still having problems, then I'd use the driver from ...

Re: Sound Absent

Does that come with the NVidea X Server, by any chance? I got that out of Package Installer just to check it out, but haven't done anything with it yet. lspci -vnn | grep VGA -A 12 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82G33/G31 Express Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:29c2...

Re: Sound Absent

mandoman@mandoman-5800 ~ $ ~/GNUstep/Applications/Oolite/oolite It seems that your operating system does not have a valid timezone name configured and is using an abbreviation instead. By comparing timezone file data it is has been possible to find the actual timezone used, but doing that is a slow...

Re: Sound Absent

Okay, I now have removed Oolite using the Package Manager, and have downloaded and installed the 64bit version from the Oolite download site. The sound is fine, and it is detecting all AddOns. However, the video is still jerky. I don't understand that, as I've got two Intel Pentium 4 CPUs, running a...

Re: Sound Absent

I think what Diziet meant was, didn't you install it from Synaptic or Software Center? Using one of those would be the way to remove it if that's what you used to install it to begin with. LOL!! That's what I meant too. Seems I didn't remove it correctly. I'm on my laptop right now, so I'll look in...

Umm.. since you installed it with a package manager, you should have uninstalled it with the same tool, not from the terminal.[/quote]

I did. dpkg --remove oolite, dpkg --purge oolite. I believe that is correct, or am I mistaken?

Interesting. I purged it from my system, but it still shows up in /usr/lib/Gnustep/Applications. http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k515/mandomank/1c537315-13ff-415a-b1aa-6eb1a2c3c727.png Why does the file still pyhysically exist in the /usr directory, even after having purged it from the system us...

Re: Sound Absent

Okay, Thargoid, you were right (as usual). I must have triggered "strict play" a couple of times ago when I was trying to exit the game. Weird. Getafix, forgive me for not doing as you asked, but I decided to purge my system of Oolite, and then re-install using package database. Unfortunately, it on...
