Damn 6 foot rule (for those not in IT, the 6 foot rule is: as soon as someone gets within 6 feet of your computer that is exhibiting problems, the problem will go away). Finally got my instance of Oolite on Debian Linux to crash while entering witchspace. Not sure if I contributed to this, though. I...

Interplanetary flights gets a step closer

Not much to say but I like the idea of an Earth to Mars trip in 39 days

Space (capitalised) is a place, therefore it should be capitalised.

Space (non-capitalised) is also a concept, so depending on context it the capitalisation is not always warranted.

sweet, thanks for that info. looks like I got me some scripting to do :-)

an aside.. knowing of other ships off scanner could open up mission scenarios where you've got to get from A to B without being ID'd (then again, cloaking does that doesn't it?)

Oolite minimum specs

This is not a request for what the minimum specs are for Oolite but more a forum for bragging about how crap | impressive your system is. I'll start. I'm running Oolite on a 4 or 5 year old Dell Latitude laptop - 1GHz PIII processor and 256MB RAM. My refresh rate regularly drops to <10fps during com...

"Yes, it looks like one of your oxps is making thargoid randomly kidnap NPC ships and assimilating them," that'd be a good mission/fiction plot. Viper goes missing. turns up later, docks unchallenged at a Coriolis, Thargoids swarm out... That would be Independence Day, but in reverse. I wonder if t...

I originally thought of the mass-lock gauge when I found myself with the station on the opposite side of the planet, meaning that I would have to steer around the planet. I thought it would be cool to know how close I could 'skim' the gravity radius of the planet without mass locking. Ideally I woul...

Would you really want to constantly monitor the distances to all NPC's in the system? At times there can be more than 200 of them. I guess a constant JS-monitoring could put quite a strain on your playing speed... Only one way to find out I guess. The game is already tracking these 200 odd objects ...

What about distance between player and NPC's and other mass lockable objects in system?

Here's a scenario - I've witchspaced into a system and made a line to a rock hermit to pick up some cheap platinum. So I get there and then start heading to the planet, only thing is, the station is on the other side of the planet. So yes, the big round thing in front of me is something I need to av...

Suggestion - Mass Lock gauge

A not particularly useful piece of equipment - for when you're aiming for an orbital station, this little gauge monitors the level of ambient gravitational interference, giving you the opportunity to steer away from the planet before you get mass locked...

This is not really a Darwin but a story worth telling. I'd started a new game and had saved up enough to get a beam laser and ECM. On a computer run to a poor ag. system, I found myself under attack by 4 pirates. Only having a front laser, running and sniping was no option so I had to duke it out. F...

Chop shops

From what I've read in my travels on this forum, it's possible to change the stats of a ship by editing the ?.plist file (correct me if I'm wrong). So for the purposes of immersion, would it be possible to have these values modified at a chop shop, in game, for a fee? Things like adding extra missil...

Doing passenger runs around Chart 2 in a Python kitted out with all the goodies. It's an adequate ship to occasionally come to the rescue of any stricken trader, but I really miss the top speed of the original Cobra III. Got my eye on a Boa CC...looks like it has a nice mix of speed and cargo capaci...
