Re: Queensland election ultimate stupidthink fail

Gotta respectfully disagree with you Diz. I've been on both sides of the fence. Grew up on the east coast in NSW, and lived with Daylight Savings through my adolescent and early adult years. Loved it. It just worked. However, for the past 15 years I've been on the west coast and have quite enjoyed n...

Re: Will Oolite survive with the release of Elite Dangerous?

My 2c / 2p here. I don't have a lot of time for gaming, so when I do, I like to get stuck in to the action (I actually like the exploration role in E:D, so I guess my interpretation of 'action' is a bit odd). Here's my experience from the past week. Wednesday night. Great! I've got an hour or so up ...

Re: David Braben's Elite: Dangerous

Turns out Ross 154 is only two jumps from Sol, so I got to Sol, SC'd to Earth, had a look at a frankly poor rendition of the planet then spied a signal some 2 million Ls away. How could I resist.

Chasing Voyager

Decided to be a jerk when I got there...

Re: David Braben's Elite: Dangerous

Ok, well I've made it from my starting system to Lave (about 120LY), and am currently on my way to Ross 154 to visit Merlin before swinging by Sol. Don't know what I'll do after I reach Sol...probably park my ship until planetary landing become available. Looking for some pirate thumping action I de...

Re: David Braben's Elite: Dangerous

Hi Pagroove. In spite of my better judgement, I'm still playing ED, although I'm currently stranded out of fuel range of any populated systems and contemplating hitting the self destruct button... To be honest, I don't have much love for ED any more. I don't particularly care about the overarching s...

Re: Will Oolite survive with the release of Elite Dangerous?

Yeah, how is Limit Theory coming along? I looked at it early on and even then it looked much more promising than E:D, but I haven't been keeping up. Funny you should ask. Update video #21 was released today after a 2 month gestation. It's looking quite nice; the underlying universe appears to be a ...

Re: Will Oolite survive with the release of Elite Dangerous?

...the plan is for the money from their other games to pay the online hosting costs for ED... Does this mean that ED is a second class citizen from FD's point of view? If it is a vanity project (as evidenced by the devs saying that 'this is the game they want to play'), then I would suggest that th...

Re: Will Oolite survive with the release of Elite Dangerous?

...I never thought FD's other games were that popular. Does anyone know differently? I'm no authority, but I would suggest that the ED forum is extremely well populated, if that's any measure to go by. I had become accustomed to the Oolite forum pace, where I could post a new topic and still see it...

Re: Will Oolite survive with the release of Elite Dangerous?

...but if FD were to renege... Call me a cynical middle-aged bastard, but it wouldn't be the first 'promise' that's been broken. Having said that, my boss once told me, "Always suspect incompetence before conspiracy". FD already burnt themselves with the cancellation of offline play. I'll grant the...

Re: Will Oolite survive with the release of Elite Dangerous?

I find myself pretty much agreeing with Smivs here. ED will likely wipe the floor with Oolite in so many ways, but then the reverse may also be true. Even if one day you can mod ED, it would likely be nowhere near the extent to which you can mod the open source of oolite. Tweakers, tinkerers and th...

Re: David Braben's Elite: Dangerous

The big sticking point that the decision to abandon full offline mode has exposed is that Elite Dangerous is reliant on an essentially uninterrupted internet connection. More than once I have found myself breaching mission deadlines due to disconnections (admittedly the netcode seems more stable now...

Re: David Braben's Elite: Dangerous

Finally got my Cobra Mk III last night Hey Pleb, join the club!!! Thing is, now that I've got my Cobra, I now need to grind for another 500-600k credits in order to have sufficient trading capital, and to outfit it sufficiently with weapons... An interesting thing today, though. The soft locks the ...

Another update, Beta 1.05. Some fixes but not Beta 2.0 or Gamma yet... :(
You've spoken too soon. Now it's Beta 1.06....to be fair to you it was a pretty quick update follow up.
