Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Thank you, I already downgraded the dual lasers and I will check through the others before I upload an OXZ version of this beautiful shipset.

Go for it, Norby! I haven't played Oolite for about a year, so who knows if I'd ever do it.

I even "fixed" the minor bug in the Escort OXP that crops up if you save after accepting a contract, quit, then re-load... but I never tested to ensure that the fix does in fact work. No reason why it shouldn't. I've just never got round to it.

Hej Keeper,

you wrote in the changelog for 1.1, staer9 remade the cat... Any chance you have the models/texture files lying around? I think it could be interesting for both of us, Norby and me, too.

As most here probably know, I've been doing some work on this classic to update it to the current version of Oolite. Due RL reasons, progress has been quite slow. But finally I'm able to bring out a version to those brave enough to test drive it :D . If all is cool, then I'll up it to the manager. Or if someone wants to take it from here, just say the word and it's yours to maintain, my time's quite limited anyway.

Version 1.3 (Original models and textures by Staer9, custom shader and reworked textures by Keeper)

* worked from the latest version by Keeper.
* included Keepers updates.
* reworked roles to better reflect the original distribution.
* Ophidian has been removed from the package, it was commented out already. use Griff's, if you fancy one.
* player versions of Cat and Iguana have been removed. Don't want anyone to be disappointed to find out that the player version has only one laser.
* all military lasers downgraded to beam lasers.
* little tweaks here and there.
* full changelog and role comparison data inside the oxz for those who want to dig deeper.

Ophidian got a new life in [wiki]EscortPack[/wiki], furthermore Bushmaster, Chameleon and Mussurana are also usable escort ships for [wiki]EscortDeck[/wiki], thanks!

Ghavial is also included in EscortPack but I reduced the height of this model a bit to fit into the deck limit (29m). I suggest to put the new model into the oxz, in this way any Ghavial fit into the deck. If you decide to keep the current one then we should say that the escort variant is a modifiied ship, but if you include the smaller model then only one Ghavial will exist. No problem if not, just a suggestion.

Heh heh.. and just as code is being tested for possible inclusion in 1.83, that will allow players to have multiple lasers.. :mrgreen:

I was a little biased leaving Ophidian out, but for the integrity of the oxp I decided to do it. It's the only one Keeper did not update to give room for Griff's piece. Glad Staer9's version is still used elsewhere.

I see no problem in switching the model, the change is not that big anyway. Better have only one version floating around IMHO. I'll make the switch.

No problem bringing 'em back when the time is ripe. With OXPs like this, I think it's better to go with the features of the stable version. When time is due, I'll make an update OXP for trunk bringing back the two laser monstrosities.

And here's the update I promised.

* I went through the roles one more time and tweaked them to even better match core roles.
* I also went through the shipyard probabilities and tuned them down to match the core probabilities.
* Norby's Ghavial model switched in.
* Ship library entries added. Flavor texts shamelessly copied from wiki. Big thank you to those individuals who wrote those texts.

That's about it, now it's updated. I'll let it float till next weekend and if nothing drastic comes up, I'll upload it to the manager.
