Plugin clears a map of the Galaxy.
The map opens as you progress through:
  • Visited systems - all information about system is available.
  • Systems in 7LY from the visited systems - only system name and coordinates are available.
  • Systems in 10LY from the visited systems - only system coordinates are available (allows to find isolated areas).
Automatically imports the history from the Explorers Club.

Difficulty levels (at F4 screen):
  • Easy - shows full map of the Galaxy without names of systems.
    • Visited systems - all information.
    • Systems in 7LY - all information.
    • Systems in 10LY - only name of system.
  • Normal - hides map of the Galaxy. Some information about the surrounding systems are available. Isolated regions can be founded.
    • Visited systems - all information.
    • Systems in 7LY - only name of system.
    • Systems in 10LY - without name of system.
  • Hard - hides map of the Galaxy. Minimum information about the surrounding systems are available.
    • Visited systems - all information.
    • Systems in 7LY - without name of system.
  • Disable - shows standard map of the Galaxy.
Required: Oolite 1.83+.
Recommended: Oolite 1.85+ (some issues have been fixed).

Plugin available in package manager (Mechanics).

P.S. I recommend to install together with Fuel Generator.

Nice. I did something similar a long, long time ago: http://www.aegidian.org/bb/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=12273. It had it's problems, but I still think the idea has some merit.

The setting is a bit of a problematic with these. Since the whole sector is populated and there is commerce going on between the systems all the time, it's strange that the player is not able to see the whole map. And to think about it, the whole witchspace travel system probably requires known destinations.

Anyway, I love the exploration idea. It's just a bit weird to explore the known part of the Ooniverse.

In Oolite 1.84 added new param "concealment": http://aegidian.org/bb/viewtopic.php?f= ... 45#p240722. This parameter provides ample opportunities for the Galaxy map management.

In Endless Sky used similar idea and it's fun to explore. The principle is described in your topic (but without the purchases map).

P.S. According to legend, the galaxy map can be patented, which eliminates its sale or use in finished form. Allowed only independent research of the Galaxy.

Perhaps all the route details are held by the big trading companies (not every trader need be independant) and they don't want any Tom, Dick or Cobra pilot undercutting their lucrative business.

However, not knowing the system government in advance makes travel potentially much more hazardous...

Idea: The first galaxy could use a more lax 'concealment'. Later on players are already more familiar with Oolite...

Hi Svengali

I'm thinking of adding difficulty settings:
  • Simple - shows map as dots, 7LY - all info, 10LY - only names
  • Normal - like now
  • Hard - hide map, in 7LY dots, 10LY not used (hide isolated areas)
