Catalunya

The Catalan regional parliament has voted to declare independence from Spain, while the Spanish parliament has approved direct rule over the region.
Worrying times - it could turn very nasty! Old enmities linger.

Yes, it's hard to see a good outcome to this.

But she said the people of Catalonia "must have the ability to determine their own future".
Not too often that I find myself in accord with Holyrood, but I'm inclined to agree.

With more than 99% of votes counted, Citizens (Cs) had 25%, winning 36 seats in the 135-seat chamber. But the pro-independence parties Together for Catalonia, Republican Left of Catalonia and Popular Unity were together on course to win a total of 70 seats, giving them a majority.
High turnout - over 80% it seems.
