[Solved]Neolite texture problems on Xubuntu 11.10

Hi, can anybody help me with getting Neolite ships being displayed correctly on my computer?

I'm running Oolite 1.76 on a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E520 laptop, operating system is 32-bit Xubuntu 11.10.

The Neolite ships (and all ships in other OXPs which use Neolite-derived ships) look like this instead of displaying the correct textures:

EDIT: The above picture does not show a Neolite ship, but a Shady Sungs ship - as pointed out by Capt. Murphy below.

When I look at the log file, I also see a lot of errors on Griff's ship's shaders, but I never noticed anything being wrong with Griff's ships, they look just great.

The log does not seem to indicate any problems with the Neolite ships:

The ship in the screen shot is the cobra 3 from Shady Sungs, but missing some textures. There doesn't appear to be any Neolite oxp(s) in the list that's being loaded... :?:

The errors suggest something is very messed up somewhere. Apparently it's quite easy under Linux to end up with multiple installs of Oolite which can interfere with each other - that might be the problem....

I don’t think it’s anything like that, it’s just that the shaders are buggy.

Capt Murphy: you are correct. I had disabled all Neolites because they had the same appearance as the shady sung in the picture. I have enabled them again, and to my surprise they show the correct texture now . :?

So, I will just disable the shady sung ships and keep the Neolites.

Ahruman: thanks for looking at this. the shader bugs do not bother me, the ships look and behave fine.

Problem closed.

I was too fast in "closing" this problem. :cry:

I removed the Shady Sungs, restarted Oolite and the Neolites were still looking fine.

Then I added a couple of other OXPs (Deep_Horizon_Nav_Buoy.oxp & spectre.oxp), restarted Oolite and the Neolites had lost their textures again.

So, I still have troubles with both Neolite's and Shady Sung's shps. I have no clue what causes the Neolites to look good at times and maltextured at other times.

By Randomius Factoria, the Neolites are displaying correctly again! I did not change anything since my previous post.

EDIT: Thanks Mauiby de Fug, I'll read those threads you've linked to.

EDIT: I've found the source of this problem, there is an overlap of a couple of ships between 2 OXPs I use, one with the correct texture and one without the texture. So both versions were installed, but I always stopped looking as soon as I found one of them.

Probably not related to your problem but I am a bit puzzled.
In your log is the line

YellOo Cabs is one of my OXPs and the puzzling thing is they do not use like_ship references, so I can't explain that log error at all! Strangely, I also don't see YellOo Cabs OXP in the list of OXPs in your log?!
Is this another hint that you may have two instances of Oolite running simultaneously, perhaps?
There are a few other things you might want to look at. For instance you have two versions of Coyote's Run mission installed. And to avoid clutter you may consider moving OXPs in and out as you need them. For example you have Tionisla Graveyard (Galaxy 1), Coyote's run (twice :P ) and Xeptatl's Sword (G5 and G5 start) and Victim 11 (G7) all installed - maybe others I missed. But my point is you can't be in all those places at once. It is generally considered best to just have OXPs relevent to where you are and what you're doing installed. If nothing else it reduces clutter, but also reduces the risk of any OXPs conflicting with each other.

About YellOo Cabs: Z_GrOovy_YellOo_Cab_Variety_Pack.oxp is installed, which uses like_ship in the shipdata.plist.

I am absolutely certain there is no second Oolite installation interfering.

About Coyote's run: Indeed, both the non-Griff version and the Griff-version were installed, I removed the non-Griff version.

About my problem in general: on the wiki OXP page for Neolite, I found a recently (end of January) posted texture pack which was missing from the OXP - this sounds very much like what I need, I'm trying it out & tinkering.

I also noticed (and applaud) the effort currently being made by major ship yards to rearrange their sales structure (with the new replace core ships vs. additional ships reorganisation à la Capt. Murphy) and to switch to the integrated shaders. So I guess a complete reload/re-install of the OXPs which contain core ships is in order. I suppose that will sort things out.

PS: I'll start to rename missions in my AddOns folder to include the galaxy where they start, such as "G5_Xeptatls_Sword.oxp" and "G7_Victim11.oxp" to make it easier to switch them in and out. (I always want to have Tionisla installed, because I have several test ships parked over there.)

Are you per chance using the new replace version of Griff's all in one. When dertien made his z_GrOovy set of OXP's he used like_ship in shipdata.plist in a somewhat strange manner. Like his Cobra re-texture pack, I suspect that Z_GrOovy_YellOo_Cab_Variety_Pack no longer works with the replace version of Griff's.
