However I had thought it was a FREE hosting site, while to my surprise what I actually found there were three account options - Personal, Business and Enterprise. The 'Personal' option costs $9.99, which I'd rather not spend at the moment.
The personal accounts are free (pricing is here) - I have one myself and haven't paid anything for it. Your $9.99 is if you want to purchase additional storage, which you don't need. I only have the basic free account, and it happily hosts all of my rather sizable catalogue of OXPs.

The sign-up page you need is here - just leave the storage setting at the bottom of the account details on the right (box 2) as 5GB - Free.

The 14-day free trial is for their business account, which you also don't need. That's also on the sign-up page linked above (you switch between the two on the left hand box 1 - make sure you have personal account selected).

Odd that, sdrubble... many people use the free box, myself included... with no sign-up/credit card problems.
Maybe your location has something to do with it, but that seems strange.

Yep, that's what I've been thinking myself.
Thargoid wrote:The personal accounts are free (pricing is here)
Well, the link you supplied in your 'here' is http://www.box.net/pricing/ . What happens here is that such link redirects immediately to https://www.box.net/signup/g . Which is also the very same page brought up by https://www.box.net/signup/h and also by https://www.box.net/signup/personal . Tested on both FF and Chrome.
The sign-up page you need is here - just leave the storage setting at the bottom of the account details on the right (box 2) as 5GB - Free.
"Here" here means - https://www.box.net/signup/personal. Here's a screenshot - no storage settings anywhere. Or did I get this botched somehow ? :?

So I suppose that El Viejo is right - box.net won't allow anything below a 'Free Trial' for my location (Brazil). Too many hackers, pirates  and assorted copyright violators around here, I guess. I won't even see their normal 'pricing' page.

I'm about to try snork's suggestion of adrive.com. I've noticed it has a 'sign up' page, so I guess its download service should be at least one notch above the anonymous uploading of fileserve.com .

Cheers

Image

This is what I see (from the UK) on the sign-up page I linked to before - the red highlights and indications are mine.

The left hand box is the personal/business selection, the details (including any additional storage to purchase) is on the right in the second box.

I couldn't see anything on the screenshot link you posted above - Picasa said it was a broken link.

Editted to update - your picasa link works now, and as you can see you're seeing a different screen to me for some reason. Probably as you say due to location or something like that. The right hand part of your screen matches mine if I select business on the left - maybe as you say those are the only ones available to your location?

Yes, it seems I won't be offered any choice, and [would] have to start straight from the business option. Crap.

Now let's see what we can do with adrive.com.

Cheers

New download link added to initial post in thread (thread name updated accordingly).

Hopefully a smoother download experience for everybody.

Thx snork for the valuable tip.

Cheers

EDIT: thread name change undone on 2011.09.13.

Indeed sir! Thx a million. In case you didn't notice yet, the file is already available for download at adrive.com. From my end, it seems that the whole download experience is incomparably better.

I think the smoother way of doing things would be to boost the gamma in the screenshots themselves, as I doubt many will want to fiddle with the gamma-correction for their monitors everytime they want to look at screenshots.
Well, I understand what you mean but would have some difficulty implementing this in a reasonable manner.

I've been using my current netbook for about 4 years, and my current monitor for about 2. During all this time I NEVER needed to perform any gamma tweak whatsoever. Should also add that I didn't play ANY computer games during this period.

My first need to tweak gamma appeared with Oolite itself - mind you, I've played for about a week before noticing I was missing colors and details. So that I bump gamma ONLY while playing, as the gamma settings which are adequate for gaming are totally inadequate and blinding for usual desktop activities.

So, the need to tweak gamma for the screenshots is related to the gamma adjustments for the game itself. But while the screenshots are taken with tweaked gamma, the gamma settings do NOT become inherited within the screenshot files themselves.

I believe that gamma settings are related to an individual's personal preferences, as well as the graphics chip on the computer, and also to environment lighting (for instance, I get lots of intruding sunlight and reflexes when playing by day). So I don't think I would be able to achieve some 'generic' gamma correction level, such that it would be suited to the viewing preferences and circumstances of everyone else...
Can easily (and even batch-wise) be applied with e.g. irfanview.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irfanview
Note taken - thanks !!!
Your ship, I keep this in mind, should the days come where my hands or my mind are not flexible and quick enough anymore to survive with a "normal" iron-ass ship. :D
Well, your [relative] youth shows up in your statement. Because you happened to forget your eyes...

Cheers, and thx a lot again. :D

Great Place to Work(tm) - Erlaza, that is. :D

On my way to delivering some cargo and one passenger to Legees, just passed thru Erlaza... it's indeed a funky place. I wouldn't originally dock there, as the usual Fuel Station fill-er-up should do (I'm late on my deliveries, as usual also). However I just HAD to do so, in order to unload a full cargo bay (around $2500 for scooped stuff), be compensated for 2 Escape Pods ($500 for one of'em! ), and check for repairs ($350 for a scratched Iron Hide - that was all... ) - all of this after having fun with 17 baddies (that's at least what the local kills appear to be, after checking the increase from the Zaalela savegame). :)

On a side note (I'm starting a topic here {already SOLVED!!!} to investigate :?: a bit more about this), the furball fun also brought about some 'unfixable' damage - one engine and the fore ball turret had been shot off (the latter is BTW the most vulnerable part of the ship, in a somewhat analogous similarity to human males' anatomy  )... for the moment I'll make do with the customary subentities fix in the savegame.

And, just to place the cherry atop the cake, just been offered the Constrictor mission   (I had supposed that some other missions would be coming before that one, and/or that I should have a greater kill count before qualifying for same). Guess I'll have to do some research on the Constrictor mission soon. 8)

I see that my next stop should be at Onrira - will probably add one of those pesky HyperCargo systems. Otherwise I'll constantly have to keep leaving cargo pods floating in space due to lack of space in the cargo bay.

Also guess I'll be changing professions soon, from absent-minded delivery man to bounty hunter or - who knows - outright pirate.

Who would've thought - after flying for a while with all these self-fighting turrets around me, my skills with the laser and joystick seem to be actually improving!

Cheers

EDIT: added the proper link to the 'fix subentities' thread - which at this moment already has the solution.

Thx for the visit Clym...

When fronclynne had originallly made his quite explanatory statement, my first thought had been to ask him, "Are you aware of any OTHER types of male genitive organs ? "... However by then this thread had just freshly started, so I thought I'd better not contribute myself to any chance of derailing it soon after inception. 8)

Now that you've been kind enough to ressurrect (re-erect ? ) the issue, it came to me that he might actually be referring, albeit subconsciously, to a Klingon genitive organ - in which case it would indeed be called by a different name. I've never personally seen one of these myself though... the thought just passed thru my mind, given the general Klingon feeling of the Caddy and of the Dark Rainbow.

Also thanks for the video contribution. While I personally think that both of the Oolite ships have a lot more sex-appeal than Austin's one, now I can also rest assured that I no longer would be the ONLY one around here who might be accused of spamming the board with porn.

Hi all,

I've been hunting around - the forum, wiki and Google - for issues regarding ship_trade_in_factor . Namely, after finding that a maintenance overhaul done at a TL 14 system had raised the factor from 78 to 'only' 94, I've been wondering if this value would ever reach 100, and what kind of other factors would have any bearing on that. This issue impacts, of course, the frequency of the maintenance overhauls and the amount of credits they'll cost.

While on this quest, however, I just stumbled into a far more relevant issue. So that the maximum trade in factor issue, while yet unsolved, gets shelved for the moment, while I act upon the new findings.

Basically, now, it regards changing the frangible assignment on main shipdata (as per this thread ), in order to avoid:
. . . . . . - turrets and engines being shot off;
. . . . . . - excessive maintenance overhaul costs when including replacement of missing turrets and engines.

This will immediately enter my personal testing. A new TODO pointer is also being added to the initial post of this thread. Final decision should take a while, as the ship will have to take some beating before undergoing the NEXT maintenance overhaul.

Stay tuned... :D

Cheers

I must admit, the first time I ever saw a Caddy in-flight, the thought that crossed my mind was "it's a Klingon d*ldo, something you'd see sticking out of an alien porn star". Nice to know someone elses mind is as sick and twisted as mine

That's not to say of course that it's not a lovely design, with the deepest respect for ClymAngus and his work.

Allright folks,

after some initial testing and verifying that everything is seemingly as functional as before, I decided without further ado to publish an updated version of this semi-OXP.

Vintage car buffs might wish to call this a HEMI-OXP though...

New version ready for download on the first post of this thread.

Anyone who enjoys descriptions might also wish to take a new look at the whole post, which has been mostly revised & rewritten with all changes logged (sorry, handwavium remains the same though). :(

Enjoy !!!
